Policies

Therapy is a commitment in a number of areas in your life. The following policies are drawn out to help tend to the container of the therapeutic process and support psychological safety, relational comfortability, and trust building. Finances, time, regularity, and communication are foundations to a healthy therapeutic process. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions about these policies.

Sliding Scale

A reduced fee may be possible and is determined on a case-by-case basis. If we cannot arrive at a mutually agreeable fee, I will provide you with referrals to other practitioners or clinics that may be more affordable.

Scheduling

Sessions are conducted weekly. Therapy is most effective when there is at least weekly regularity. This rhythm offers continuity and flow so that the therapeutic process can be as contained and generative as possible. To achieve the best possible results, I recommend weekly sessions, especially during the beginning phase of treatment. For this reason, rescheduling is preferred to cancellation, when you cannot make the original time of an appointment.

Rescheduling and Cancellations

If you need to reschedule an appointment, I ask for a minimum of 48 hours' notice to accommodate you and offer the time to someone in need. Otherwise, you may be charged for the session. Cancellations also require 48 hours' notice to avoid billing. Emergencies and/or illnesses happen, and I am always open to waiving the fee for a missed session under these circumstances.

I will give you at least two weeks' notice of my absence and offer the option of video sessions or rescheduling when possible. *Please note missing more than two consecutive weeks of the sessions may, unfortunately, lead to me no longer being able to save that time for you. If this occurs, I will always work with you to find a new time that works better for you. I recommend estimating no more than four cancellations throughout one year to support the continuity of your therapeutic process.

Insurance

Many clients receive direct reimbursement from their insurance for out-of-network benefits. I offer superbills to help facilitate that process. It can be useful to contact your insurance in advance of our sessions.

questions for your insurance provider…

  1. Are “out of network benefits” available?

  2. What is my deductible?

  3. How much of my deductible has been met?

  4. Once my deductible is met, how much will be reimbursed?

  5. Do I need Authorization for Psychotherapy?

  6. If yes, what is that authorization number?

  7. How many sessions are authorized to start?

  8. What are the start and end dates of the authorized sessions?

  9. What is the maximum number of sessions I’m authorized to use for the year?

  10. How do I submit the “super-bill” for “out-of-network” reimbursement given to me by my therapist?
